The first ever World Cup final was played at the Centenario Stadium, Montevideo in Uruguay on July 30 1930. The game was preceded by a seemingly pointless dispute over who should provide the game ball. FIFA stepped in with the decision for Argentina to provide the match ball in the first half and Uruguay to provide a ball for the second half. Uruguay eventually won the match 4 – 2.
